Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions about Direct Primary Care, answered.
What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Direct Primary Care is a membership-based model where you pay a flat monthly fee for unlimited access to your provider. This includes same-day or next-day appointments, telemedicine, and most in-office procedures—all without co-pays or surprise bills.
Do you accept insurance?
No. We do not bill or accept any health insurance, which allows us to focus on patient care instead of insurance paperwork. This is how we can offer unhurried, accessible care for a flat monthly fee.
Yes, you still need insurance. We recommend all patients have a health insurance plan (like a high-deductible plan or a health-sharing plan) for "catastrophic" events like hospital stays, surgeries, or visits to specialists. Your DPC membership covers all your primary care, but it is not an insurance plan.
What's not included in my membership?
Your membership covers all services provided directly by Wayfinder DPC. Services that require an outside facility or provider are not included, such as:
- Specialist visits or hospital services
- Emergency room care
- Imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound)
- Pathology fees for biopsies
- Vaccines
- Medications
What about labs, imaging, and medications?
While the services themselves are not included, we help you get them at the lowest possible cost. We partner with wholesale labs and imaging centers to offer you deeply discounted cash-pay prices, often 80-90% less than insurance prices. We also work to find you the best prices on prescriptions.
Do you prescribe controlled medications?
No. We do not prescribe any controlled substances for chronic pain, such as opioids. We also do not prescribe long-term controlled medications for anxiety, such as benzodiazepines. We are happy to discuss alternative treatments and help you find a specialist if needed.
Do you see patients of all ages?
Yes. We are a family practice and are happy to see patients ages 1 and up.
As a member, how do I schedule an appointment?
It's easy! You can call, text, or message us through our secure patient portal. We don't have a complicated phone tree. We offer same-day or next-day appointment availability for our members.
Can I contact my provider after hours?
Yes. You can call for urgent concerns after hours. Routine questions (texts) will be answered during business hours. Keep in mind, we have a family and it is important to keep a healthy balance between family and work integration. We are always happy to help with truly urgent concerns.
What should I do in an emergency?
If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.
Wayfinder DPC provides comprehensive primary care services, but we are not an emergency clinic or a hospital. For non-life-threatening but urgent medical needs, please contact your provider directly so we can guide your care.
What if I need specialist care or hospitalization?
We will coordinate referrals and share your records with specialists or hospitals as needed. Your DPC membership works alongside your insurance or health plan to make sure you're covered for care outside our clinic.
What is the enrollment process and cost?
New members complete a simple enrollment form and pay a one-time $75 enrollment fee per family. After enrollment, we help you schedule your first visit, which is planned for an hour so we can fully understand your past health and future goals.
OPENING SPECIAL: This $75 fee is **completely waived** for all new members who sign up for an annual plan!
Can Wayfinder DPC request my records from my previous PCP?
Yes. Once you enroll, we can request your medical records from your past providers to ensure we have a complete history. This helps us provide safe, personalized care from day one.
Do you offer employer plans?
Yes! We offer discounted plans for businesses who want to provide a high-value, low-cost healthcare benefit to their employees. Please visit our "For Employers" page for more details or contact us directly.
